As a birth and motherhood photographer - and a mum who knows what it’s like to chase a toddler while feeding a newborn - I want to share real-life tips I’ve learned (and heard from other amazing mums) to help you not just survive, but actually enjoy the chaos of having two under two.
You are stronger than you know, and your babies are so lucky to have you!
💛 I. Lower the Bar - and Then Lower It Again
You don’t need to have a spotless house, a gourmet meal on the table, or perfectly coordinated outfits. Prioritise everyone being fed, loved and safe - that’s enough. The rest can wait.
🫶 II. Create a Safe Toddler Space
A baby in your arms means less time with hands free for your toddler. Set up a safe play area or gated room with their favourite toys so you can feed or settle your newborn knowing your toddler can’t get into trouble.
✨ III. Embrace Screen Time Without Guilt
Sometimes, a favourite show or a few YouTube songs can be a lifesaver during cluster feeds or when you’re trying to get the baby down for a nap. This is a season - and it doesn’t define your parenting.
⏰ IV. Sync Naps (When You Can)
It doesn’t always work, but aim for one overlapping nap window each day. That hour (even if it’s 20 minutes) is golden for a shower, a cuppa, or a quick rest.
👫 V. Accept Help (Even If It’s Hard)
Friends, family, neighbours - if someone offers to bring a meal, fold washing, or take your toddler for a walk, say yes. Letting people support you isn’t weakness - it’s community.
💛 VI. Prioritise One-on-One Moments
Your toddler will need reassurance and your baby will too. Steal pockets of time - like reading a book together while baby naps, or giving baby skin-to-skin while your toddler snacks next to you. Little moments add up to big connections.
🌿 VII. Give Yourself Grace
Having two under two is intense. There will be tears (yours and theirs), skipped baths and days that feel never-ending. But it will get easier - and one day, you’ll watch them giggle together and know you gave them a built-in best friend.

Whether you’re already juggling two under two or your second baby is on the way, remember: you are strong, you are capable and you don’t have to do it alone.
